The photographic image is an evocation of time past: the decay in social artifacts, the edifices of a society and the stories told by the locations photographed. It is a reference to memory and imagination. The image provokes the viewer to construct a story.
The DK Photo Group (DKPG) consists of 5 artists who photograph the beauty in decay and abandonment - in rust and peeling paint and neglect. With similar subject matter, there is a distinct and individual perspective to each body of work. All five artists bring a sensibility of seeing the richness of the artifacts of our social past, a realization of what is beautiful on many levels. With a foundation laid, each artists now has the freedom to take their images to another level of artistic interpretation.
DKPG’s new work in this realm will enhance the distinction of the individual artists’ visions. Though similar in subject matter, the individual interpretation has always been evident. The beauty in abandonment, decay and neglect remains, but all is given a new context and meaning through the construction/deconstruction of the final image.
